Extinct Australian Animals: A Simple Guide for Kids

Australia is home to many unique animals, but some have sadly become extinct, which means they are no longer living. Let's learn about a few special animals that used to roam Australia but are now gone.

1. Tasmanian Tiger
The Thylacine looked like a large dog with stripes on its back. It lived in Tasmania but became extinct in the 1930s due to hunting and habitat loss.

2. Paradise Parrot
This beautiful bird had bright green and red feathers. It lived in grasslands in Queensland but became extinct in the early 1900s due to habitat destruction and lack of food.

3. Lesser Bilby
The Lesser Bilby was a small marsupial that lived in the desert. It became extinct in the 1950s because of predators and changes to its environment.

4. Toolache Wallaby
This wallaby had a long tail and soft fur. It lived in southeastern Australia but became extinct in the 1940s due to hunting and habitat loss.

5. Pig-Footed Bandicoot
This tiny bandicoot had unique feet and lived in various parts of Australia. It became extinct in the late 1800s due to habitat destruction and introduced predators.

Even though these animals are no longer with us, we can learn from the past and work hard to protect other animals from becoming extinct. By caring for the environment and supporting conservation, we can help preserve Australia’s amazing wildlife for the future.
